Cytokine specificity in macrophages: JAK-STAT and beyond

Our group has published a new review in Trends in Immunology titled “Cytokine specificity in macrophages: JAK–STAT and beyond.” In this article, we discuss how macrophages generate stimulus-specific responses despite sharing common cytokine signaling pathways such as JAK–STAT. We highlight emerging evidence that cytokine specificity is largely encoded at the chromatin level, where stimulus-dependent enhancer activation and transcription factor networks shape distinct inflammatory gene programs.
