Prof. Noam Zelcer, PhD
Biosketch
Noam Zelcer received his PhD in 2003 from the Netherlands Cancer Institute/University of Amsterdam. Following postdoctoral work at the University of California in Los Angeles he joined the Department of Medical Biochemistry in 2009. Since 2016 he is a full professor in Molecular Regulation of Metabolism at the University of Amsterdam.
The Zelcer Lab aims to uncover the fundamental mechanisms underlying the molecular regulation of lipid metabolism in health and disease. We study this in the context of cardio-metabolic disease using genetic, biochemical, cellular, and animal models.

We aim to unravel the function of the nuclear hormone receptor Nur77 and its co-regulator the LIM domain-only protein FHL2 in atherosclerosis and obesity. Detailed molecular studies are performed to understand the molecular mechanisms of protein-protein interactions in transcriptional regulation.

Medical Cell Biochemistry
The Zelcer lab is located in the Department of Medical Biochemistry in the the Academic Medical Center (AMC) of the University of Amsterdam. The lab is a member of both the
Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences (ACS) and
Amsterdam Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (AGEM) research institutes. Our mission is to uncover the fundamental mechanisms underlying the molecular regulation of lipid metabolism in health and disease. We study this in the context of cardio-metabolic disease using genetic, biochemical, cellular, and animal models.
